Diet and Nutrition
Importance:
Diet and Nutrition is vitally important in keeping your body healthy and in the best shape that you can to enhance performance. Training and competition place a lot of demand on your body and the right diet can improve your performance on and off the course. That is especially important for me as I train all year round. I try make sure I get enough calories and consume the right fuel during my workouts.
Eating Right:
I am constantly trying to “eat right” and I’m pretty easy to please. I stick to lean meats, fish, lots of fruit and vegetables and “as little” junk food as possible.
Protein ranks high in my diet because it helps build muscle tissue. I drink atleast one protein shake a day right before or after workouts. I also take daily supplements for bone protection and nutritional support.
Every athlete needs some form of complex carbs because they give you a boost for intense training and help fuel your performance for long periods of time. There are lots of theories about how many carbs you need and what types are best. I like to use sports drinks during competition and long workouts. They give me the right mix of carbohydrate energy and electrolytes to keep me going.
Lifestyle:
A healthy diet is not always easy to maintain, it takes discipline and a commitment. It is a lifestyle choice that I am constantly working on and it will be an ongoing battle for as long as I live. I am becoming more passionate about improving my eating habits all the time & I know it will put me in good standing in the long-run. You are never too old to start eating healthy, & I highly recommend everyone to give it a go.
